World Environment Day Recycling Challenge
Collaboration for impact
In collaboration with The American Women’s Network Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Accueil, GreenFootprint and ReLoop organized the World Environment Day Recycling Challenge.
The goal of this initiative was to raise awareness, share knowledge and creating positive impact!
The American Women’s Network Abu Dhabi is an informal network of women from all over the world residing in Abu Dhabi. The group has 700 active members at the moment and have been around for two decades. Abu Dhabi Accueil is a francophone association in Abu Dhabi which incorporated in 2021. In 2021, AWN and Accueil started working together on a few initiatives and one of them is environmental projects. Driven by great effort and motivation, the members wanted to make a difference for the month of May.
Sharing knowledge and creating awareness
GreenFootprint and ReLoop spoke at the AWN coffee morning in order to raise awareness on how to make the right choices in order to live more sustainably, reduce waste and create positive impacts on environment and local community.
The American Women’s Network Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Accueil also did a guided Tour of Ecyclex Recycling Facility in Abu Dhabi. Ecyclex co-founders gave an incredible informative and eye opening tour of their facility in Mussafah. Visitors could learn about how many different materials are recycled and how processes take place. The group felt very motivated to start recycling in a more conscious way and to help bring awareness.
Action time- Recycling Challenge
The best impact starts from our own example and our homes. Through collaborative efforts, World Environment Day Recycling Challenge was lunch in May. The community members were able to recycle from their doorstep thanks to ReLoop App- a tool that helps individuals to become part of the UAE’s circular economy.
“Recycle is important as I feel to help the planet to be greener. It is embedded in our values. Using ReLoop App is so easy and the collector guys are so efficient and nice.”
— Flore, Abu Dhabi Accueil
“I have always loved recycling. In Ontario Canada, the government started a huge recycling project and many Canadian provinces now have state of the art, government supported, recycling projects. It was disappointing to recycle here in Abu Dhabi because I felt that much of my sorted recycling was heading to the landfill. I am glad that Ecyclex has taken on recycling well because now I know that efforts will be made to actually recycle what I have sorted. I appreciate the app and how it tracks what I send. I will continue to work with Ecyclex and ReLoop recycling.”
“This recycling challenge has opened my eyes to how much we consume in my household. Hopefully one day we will have less to recycle because we buy less. In the meantime, I love seeing the way ReLoop measures the recycling and impact we are making. Our earth’s resources are finite. I love that ReLoop and the Ecyclex team will do their part to give my garbage a new life.”

Impact Creation
Throughout month of May, over 53 members of AWN and Abu Dhabi Accueil took part in the Recycling Challenge organized by GreenFooprint in collaboration with ReLoop. The members were collecting and recycling over 6 different types of recyclable waste from their doorstep thanks to an innovative mobile APP solution ReLoop.
Thanks to your great efforts, motivation and awareness for a healthier environment, 1029kg of waste is collected. Not only that the waste was diverted from landfill, but we also created a larger impact on our environment through reduced emissions and pollution- over 1492kg of CO2 reduced and over 3435kWh of electricity non-used. Furthermore, we conserved nature by saving over 7777L of water and 4 trees, thanks to the materials that we keep in use other than consuming raw material.
Apart from building an infrastructure for a circular economy in the country, ReLoop is giving back credits to their users in order to support shifts in their behavior change. By recycling, the members have been collecting the credits that they can offset for purchasing reusable products in order to reduce waste. The group collected over AED 500 of credits that can be used in their continued efforts to build a better environment.
